(This is probably the fifth time I've tried to make the post. My God. Also, there is an owl right outside my window.)
Hecate, one of my larger female halfmoons, is turning white, as the title of this thread may suggest. Friday morning she was her usual solid bright red. Friday night, my beloved Theodore (the beagle mix) was hit by a car and killed, so I don't know if she changed colors then. Saturday I drove Teddy's body home to be buried. I stayed the night. Sunday evening I returned home, didn't even look at the fish tanks, and got in bed after gorging on Ben and Jerry's and a tub of cookie dough (emotional eater, right here!). Monday morning as I turned on the fish lights, I noticed her caudal fin was translucent and the bit of her body where it meets her caudal was white!
Tuesday I did water changes and attempted to make a thread about this event. I moved her to the nearly empty ten gallon for closer observation. She's in there with Themis who is recovering from an injury on her back which has mostly healed. Now, Hecate's dorsal is beginning to change colors, as well as more of her body and part of her anal fins.
I meant to test the water yesterday with water change, but I forgot. I'm testing the results now, but this ten gallon is cycled, so there shouldn't be any issue. The twenty gallon is cycled as well. I'm also hesitant to believe this is an issue of water quality since it only seems to be getting worse and I do twice weekly water changes in both tanks, both tanks are cycled (I've had the ten gallon for over a year, always with fish in it, did a fish-in cycle when I got it). The twenty gallon is newer but I completed a fish-less cycle in August/September.
I've got a video here, and two images.
(Sorry the images are large. Also, in case it doesn't look like a video on anyone else's screen (like on mine), the bottom image is actually a video.)
