Which one do you guys prefer as far as looks and fish go? Maintenance is out of the question.

I'd say saltwater fish rule, but nothing beats a heavily planted tank! Overall though I'd rather watch a saltwater tank teeming with life... On the other hand I can never imagine having a saltwater tank in my home.

All said and done, saltwater wins it for me, just because of the beautiful fish. I MUCH prefer plants to corals though.

Corala is what does it for me in marine. They are just epic to watch move around and eat out of the water. Very interesting I would say but yea love marine tanks :3

I'm so opinionated on this matter that I have one of each! :D

Discus tank, 400 litres, which I'm in the process of re-planting, I'm actually going in a few minutes to get some more sand to make a thicker layer for the plants.

Also I have a 90 litre tank that will have a soil substrate and will be a veritable jungle for a pair of ceylon snakeheads.

Then I have just started a reef, 550 litres, which for the moment is "heavily planted". As well as loads of hair algae (which are now coming under control) there are loads of macroalgae that hitched a ride on the rock from Fiji.

What I'm going to do here is see how macroalgae and hard corals can mix, but I'm not going to favour the macros in any way. If my lawnmower blenny and tang eradicate them, so be it, I'm in it for the corals.

I have one of each as well. They're both different. Very different. I think I prefer the planted though. :dunno:
