what brand of heaters do people find to be the most accurate? i have 2 300w hagen elites in my 120 gallon , and to get the temp at 30 i have to havew them both set at 24?

i use the rena heaters in all of my tanks and they are very very accurate. no problems at 30 degrees when i used to keep discus, you dont have to worry about large water changes as they turn then selves off when the level gets too low, made of plastic so no fish can get burns and are very very robust. also have flashing lights to warn of temperature drops etc :good:

they sound perfect. so let me make sure im understanding this right. i can do my waterchange without having to unplug the heaters , and they wont burn out because they will switch off when the water level drops?

edit: just read the specs on the rena site , i have to say they sound very impressive , i think when i re-do my tank i may well have to invest in a couple

On a related note, how many watts of heater do people have in their 500+ litre tanks?

Nelly's old 5x2x2 became operation last night and the temp had dropped to 17C overnight!

I consequently went straight out and hardwired both my Juwel 300W and 50W (from Rio and Korral respectively) and its taken three hours to raise the temp by a whopping 2C...
Thankfully, its riverine fish in their (Opsarius, Barilius, Puntius denisonii) which can cope with such cool water, but I'm hoping to make 21 or 22C sustainable.

It might help that the sun has line of sight of the tank water today (must have forgotten it was a bank holiday), which might help get to the target temp. I've also found that I could close the garage window (where the Blagdon armoured electric cable goes in, which will hopefully prevent a massive temp drop overnight.

Already, I'm beginning to cross fingers that the place we are looking at tomorrow is good enough to sign a contract, as this could be rather expensive while we stay here and the 540l is operation in the garage.

I have 2 x 300 watt heaters in mine, just in case one fails :good:, its very rare for them both to come on - I have them set at slightly different temps

I also have the rena smart heaters, wouldnt have anything else

Won't be using any heater without a Temperature Controller from now on.
