Heaters - Vertical/horizontal?

Thanks, very interesting

I think i'll re-site mine to 45 degrees then. It was just easier to hide along the bottom

Cheers
Andy

if we talking evidence, is there evidence 45 degrees is more efficient? I am not being arsey, i would like to know, if thats the case i will go to 45 degrees

It doesn't matter, it will still heat the water... No matter what angle it is at. 45* is just a safety protocol some people have to keep fish from injuring themselves on it.

I am pretty sure that the fish that have died on heaters get trapped in between the glass and the heater. If fish didnt know that something was killing them, they wouldnt even be any living today. Even a worm knows when it touches something hot, and im pretty sure fish are a lot more advanced than worms.

Well my catfish must be stupid, he used to snuggle up to the heater burning himself quite a few times. If he wasn't stupid than he knew he was burning himself-doesn't make sense. I finally moved it out of his "area" and now he leaves it alone. Maybe he thought it was a smokin' hot girlie catfish???

fish are not that stupid i would say 45 degree angel about half way up the tank side or back the only reason
you need heater shields is for big fish that throw thing about like rocks and bog wood and heaters and filters
or smash the heater against the tank side

good luck biff

 The evidence of this is.....?

Try telling that to the various people that have had fish such as bichirs, plecs and stingrays die from laying on heaters.

as soon as it starts to warm up the fish swims of i have seen fish resting on heaters befor but as soon as they come on the fish is off there not that slow not unless theres something wrong with the fish fish are not stupid

This is one person's experience. Honestly I've heard of plenty of cases of fish deaths due to this.
