Hi guys i have been having some problems with my heaters. First of i had a heater in my aqarium which was 300 watts and the its a 280 liter tank. I got a current from it so i put the spear one in the tank. But it didn't do the job to keep the tank 30 degrees for the discus. So then i went out on the weekend and brought a Aqua One 300 watt heater. Now i have tried to keep the heater straight and a 45 degree angle aswell. But it won't keep the temp up to 30 as i want it to if i turn it up it goes to high and i've got it near the spray bar as i was told if you lay them down they don't work properly. If any one could help would appericate it i am really confused. thanks

Do you mean if you turn up the temp on your heater, it exceeds the 30º you are trying to achieve?

Yes mate its stopped on a few lines above 30 where i want it now :). hopefully it don't go futher up. Heater has switched its self off so far so good. Is there any other heaters that are reliable and better? want to get one and put it away. Thanks for replying back

I've had no problem with interpet heaters.  You might have better luck having two heaters (one on each side of the tank).

The issue is more down to the scales on the heaters adjuster, tank shape, water flow & position of temp sensor. To get 30º at the coldest part, the area nearest your heater will always be warmer etc. I've now got an inline heater attached to my canister which eliminates much of this problem but the scale on the adjuster is still off. 21º gives me a tank temp of 24º-25º almost all over (measured using a digital probe.) This is because I am running a 300W heater on a 180L tank however, I will need it in the winter to maintain that temp if we successive below zero days.

I was going to get one of them inline heater's but was told by my local shop not to get them cause apparently they cook the fish. Just checked the heater its light is off but i can see the wavey things near the heater like its on. Think i should return this back cause its rising the temp up to 90

I really hope you are talking F and not C there.

I have never in over 8 years seen heat waves rising from a fish tank heater, its not boiling the water. I would also expect inline externals & internals to be the opposite way round there: im heating the water well away from my fish then mixing it with the tank water, temperature difference will be negligable. However, an internal heater has burned fish in the past and recently, before I got the external I almost suffered this fate.

Yeah am talking about fahrenheit i think i'll get one of them inline heaters. On top of that i've seen some white spot on one of the discus due to the temp not stabling so gonna treat it. Just one thing after another feel like giving up. Thanks for your advice and for taking time to help me out appericate it

I had a interpet heater for a 80L tank, it was 100w and wouldn't heat to 24 even when it was turned up to 30, I got a 200w one from maidenhead aquatics in the end
