My gosh I am so glad I decided to do a water change on my betta smaragdina tank. When I put my hand in the water it felt like bath water so I took a glance at the thermometer and it read 90 degrees!!!! I nearly died!! Neither the male or female seemed too bothered by the temp though they actually were more hot for eachother today than any other day :dunno:

I've switched heaters now and added a few degrees cooler water to the tank but it's still gonna take a few hours for the temp to get back to normal.

I have no idea what happened with the heater. I've been using it in that tank for a little over a year now with no problems. Anyone know why heaters all of a sudden decide to malfunction?? I'm going to see if there is a warrenty on it and see if I can get my money back.

I can't imagine what I would of woken up to tomorrow morning if I hadn't done the water change tonight :byebye: My poor babies :(

Not good but they will survive that temperature no problem but higher is fatal had same thing on a fry tank but was 104 so as you can imagine not good the only thing i can put it down to is the heater was taken out of the water and had been not used for a while i have come to the conclusion that if a heater is taken out of water it will fail sooner, as have had heater that have had for years and had no problem or they just make too technical and more to go wrong...nothing scientific here and is just my guess.........   but the fish i lossed will agree :( :(
