hi all,

I have a 100 litre water tank of which empties automatically now and then..

I need the water to be at around 20 degrees

I tried a fluval heater and I kept getting the low flow problem so I bought another 300W heater with a plastic cage around it.

About an hour a go the water emptied and the heater go so hot the plastic cage melted and I think the heater has died.

I am after a heater (fish tank one will be fine) that will either auomatically turn off when it senses its in free air or a heater with a known and accurate cut out in it.

Any ideas greatly appreciated

Thanks

The Rena smart heaters have a cut out, but i dont know how effective it will be for what you need.

I have a rena smart heater and they claim they're unbreakable. One of the selling points is that its never hot to the touch due to heating from inside. It's also made of metal and plastic so won't shatter. I never turn mine off when doing large water changes, where the water level drops substantially below the line, and its still functioning. Wouldn't take it as gospel though.

I would need the 300W one

As of the spec its saying its made of glass?

http://www.rena.net/reference-center/heaters/heater-specifications.aspx

•The tube is composed of a 2 mm thick borosilicate glass, and is in compliance with all international safety standards

Thanks

The first link is for the correct heater, the second seems to be for a rena 'cal' heater which I'm not aware of. I bought mine from here: http://www.seapets.co.uk/products/aquarium-supplies/fish-tank-equipment/aquarium-heaters/thermostatic-heaters/rena-smart-heater-50w.html

I think the specs for the one you want is here: http://www.rena.uk.com/Products/Product.aspx?ProductID=433

Seems that it heats via ceramic instead of glass.
