I have a breeding tank for in the house and I was wondering if 50watts is too much for the 5gal tank. Thanks

I would say it is - you are better off with a 25 watt.

Yeah that sucks cause I have a 10gal breeding tank but I can't fill the water up enough for it to be safe in there.

Well you can give it a try and see how it goes - just have a thermometer in there (on the opposite side of the tank) to check the temperature.
It's most certainly far from ideal, but if you don't have a choice it "could" possibly do.
I know some heaters actually state the minimum tank size on the packaging.

I probably need a underwater heater anyways since I can only fill up breeding tank halfway. I can always return it.
