Heater Cover, Necessity?

My female betta's used to have a habit of sleeping behind my heater, this happened to 2 of them both of which died, ive had a heater cover ever since.

You can if you want, but unless you specifically own things like synos (which are notorious for it IME) it will probably be a waste of money.

I dont have one in my tank with my syno, I just put it on the glass vertically so he cant rest on it.

Heaters dont get that hot when there's water around them, the fish would literally have to lie on it and stay put to allow themselves to be burnt,.

Bettas dying because of being burnt by the heater just doesn't make sense, tbh I doubt that was the cause.

my view is, pretty much, the same a three fingers. i dont use a guard, have three synos, but have noticed no problems. i guess though, for £3-5, it may just be worth the peace of mind it would offer an inexperienced keeper.
