I have a planted 125 litre Amazon biotope setup.

I've recently installed a 25W Rena Cor Heater Cable underneath my gravel. My water temp has now gone up to 28C from 26C and won't come down, even with my normal heater turned off. Obviously the cable is keeping the water at 28C, my query is can I turn off the cable without detrimental effects to my plants. I was thinking of just putting the cable on a timer with my lights. The lights come on for 5 hours, off for 5, then on for 5. Will that allow enough time to cool the water a couple of degress?

Hi gf225, I,m supprised your heating cables don,t have a thermostat? It dosen,t make sense to me to have your heater on with your lights as heat is generated from the lighting anyway. If you are going to put the cables on a timer why not have them turn on for 15 min every 1/2 hour or 15 min every hour. Monitor the temp and work out the best time combo. This way you should have consistant temp rather than a large fluctuation which you will get if you have them come on and off with your lights.
