I'm heartbroken to announce Poseidon has past away today. He suddenly developed fin rot/ fungus (I think) overnight and despite me trying to treat it, by this morning barely had a tail and was covered in white. He struggled just to swim up for air (I lowered the tank water, but it didn't help much) and rested in his plants imbetween. I found him later, my dear Poseidon, dead in the bottom of his tank.
I remember wanting to get a betta for the first time, wanting to save them from those wretched cups. As I waited my plans grew grander and grander until I decided I'd have 2 betta in a divided 20 gallon tank.I went to Petsmart on March 24 2005, to find my very first betta and as I looked around I saw one that was way too big for his cup and, boy was he flaring, I fell in love with the then blue betta. Once I released him into the aquarium he kept insisting on trying to get to the other side and it was decided then that he would be the tank's sole inhabitant. He soon changed colors to a blue/purple/red with a lot of the red. I loved the little guy, whom I named Poseidon, he was so curious and always came to see whoever came to see him. I return for giving him such a good life he would spoil me with gorgeous, huge bubble nest, true works of art. But since I got the oto's he would come see me anymore because I had been scaring him away from the otos and that was heartbreaking enough; and now he died, sad and and frustrated, because of me. To a lot of you it may seem silly to get so upset over a fish, but he was more that that to me, he wasn't like other fish, he was some how, a friend and family and truly loved. I was even trying to decide what I'd get him for x-mas. When i found him dead, I broke down into tears for my poor Bubble Boy.
R.I.P. Poseidon :-( :-(

I also have another dilemma I need help with. I can't empty the tank or risk uncycling it because of my otos, but I really do want to ready the tank for another betta, or I will likely become so depressed at seeing Poe's old tank I'll neglect it and end up killing the otos. What can I do?
Also if you know what might have killed Poe for sure or how it happened and so fast without hurting the otos or my other betta please tell me. The only thing I could find wrong was that the pH was too low and is now at 6.0 way too low. and I will also need to find so way to fix that before getting a new betta.

aww I am so sorry about your boy....I know its hard to lose one you loved so dearly...May he RIP

Sorry for your loss bless him. R.I.P.
