This fighter doesnt swim much...
doesn't feed much, just hangs out under plants and logs...
He looks to be in ok condition.. any thoughts on what might be up??

I have had him for about 2 weeks...
He is in a 65 L tank with a couple of rams. couple of catfish and 10 or so livebearers..
ph is a dash over 7, water temp at about 25.5©
Im stumped... Not typical figher behaviour!!!

the other fish are all pretty active types, he may be shy, generally male fighters or bettas as they are also known do a lot better in tanks by them selves. does the tank have a strong current at all? bettas prefer minimum water movement

He doesn't like his new friends :(
Can you get him a small tank all of his own?

yeh i have a nice little tank i could use for him.. but what other friends can i have with him?
i might even hand ball him off to a mate so that way i have room for some german blue rams :)

could be worth treating with anti internal bacteria meds, as loss of appetite, listlessness and emaciation are all listed as symptoms of internal bacteria problems, and he does look kinda thin. and internal bacteria problems can sometimes be totally symptomless, so the fact that he looks well doesn't necessarily mean anything.

also, that looks like a neon tetra in the bottom of the photo. they can be a problem with bettas, due to them being a bit nippy. and what types of livebearers do you have? is it just the platies? or do you have other types too?

yeh there are three neon tetra.. one died this evening :( there are 3 guppie in the tank and 4 rummy nose tetras... but on saturday im saying goodbye to all the tetras and live bearers! off to a new home!

So i really dont know if i should put the fighter in a tank of his own... give him to my mate or treat the water.. would it pay to ask the LFS for some ideas?

Don't speak to the LFS! Worst thing to do in most cases!
I would move the fighter to a tank of his own, and start treating for anti internal bacteria. Just in case. See if he perks up. How big is the tank you have to move him to? If it is big enough, you could get a divider for it and keep 2 fighters. Wouldn't worry about friends for them. Just make your tank look great. These fish are so fun to watch anyway, you don't need other fish in there. once he perks up and is happy he will give you hours of enjoyment!
