  Im extremly happy that our opaline gourami has had healthy fry but im sure if i need to seperate the male and female to stop them having more again as we must have over 400 healthy looking free swimming fry.

will this number drop over the next few days?

they hatched about 5 days ago.

Any info would be much appreciated.

SOme will be top notch healthy, some may have defects, some may not even have all the right organs in the right places.

Some will certainly die off it they cannot find food, or they are not capable of finding and eating foods. Others will die off as they grow as they aren't quite set up for a good life (genetic defects or simply "runts of the litter").

If you do get several hundered fry reaching a size where you can easily see them and their body shapes then that is the time to start being a little nasty and get the "GOD" head on. It is kinda your duty at this stage to ensure that any disfigured, damaged, runty or especially small babies are ... killed off. This knocks any suffering out of the window as soon as possible, and also ensures you have a healthy batch to raise on. You may end up with 100 or so great little fish.

Well done, but be sure to ensure that you separate big guys from little guys so that they all get enough food. (and the little guys growth isnt hindered by hormones released from the big guys)

edited : spelling.
