On most boards, there are new people wanting to raise bettas. I just thought I would post on what I feel needs to happen for a betta to stay healthy. This is just my opinion, and since I haven't read all the posts, I might be repeating something..(sorry). Water change, water change , water change. Sounds like work, eh. I use aquarium salt in my water. It helps prevent velvet, which is the #1 killer of bettas. It also promotes healthy gills, which prevents stress from other things happening to your fish. Warm water helps the fish to use it's immune system, which also fights stress. I prefer 78-82 degrees. Good foods help the fish to add on weight, which produces energy for the fish. Quarantine every new fish for 3 weeks. Seperate tank, seperate nets, etc. I age my water in a 33 gal plastic trash can. I use all the water in my water changes, then refill.
This gives it 2-3 days to age. I put a large sponge filter in the bin, and turn up the air.
A little salt, clean water, and good foods is the only thing it really takes to have healthy fish. Hope I never stepped on any toes by posting whats probably on here ..somewheres..
