Hi everyone,

I've had a look round the net and not really come up with much. One of my female platys is headstanding but was fine last night.

The tank is due for a water change tonight so i haven't done any parameter tests. I'll do those after i change the water, which should be about 25-30 litres (20%)

Can any of you give me ideas on what i should be looking for? She looks perfectly healthy except that she's floating nose down. None of the other fish are affected.

..regards den.

I'm not at all a platy expert, but my platy (I only have the one) does that a bit diagonally sometimes when she is at rest.

Make sure she can maintain balance when swimming?
Does she swim on her side?
Does she rest for long periods on bottom of the tank, leaning to onside?
Does she look bloated?
Does she swim fast in circles, or turn upside down?
What does it look like when the fish goes to the toilet?
Does she look pale, or darker in colour?

Sorry for all the question just need to rule out swim bladder, constipation, bacterial infection.

She's not as bad as she was since i changed the water but she's still standing on her head at times. It looks like her tail is too light and is flipping her over.

Does she swim on her side?
no

Does she rest for long periods on bottom of the tank, leaning to onside?
no

Does she look bloated?
no, she looks a little thin but she's just had babies

Does she swim fast in circles, or turn upside down?
no

What does it look like when the fish goes to the toilet?
looks like normal, she's producing enough

Does she look pale, or darker in colour?
no, her colours are as they should be

It sounds like a swim bladder problem to me.
Feed some peas. If you can isolate you could try an internal bacteria medication.

Can you post your water stats please .

Causes of swim bladder.
Over feeding.
To many dried foods.
Constipation.
Bacterial infection of the swim bladder.
Internal parasites.
Injury of the swim bladder.
Bad water quality.

Sign of swim bladder.
Fish will be unable to maintain balance in the water.
Tail looks like it weighing the fish down in the water.
Head standing.
Unable to get off the bottom of the tank, or top.
Turning up side down.
