Just caught Titch our Brown Puffer having a little puff....

Woah. Never seen a pic of a puffer like that! I always thought it's not good if puffers actually puff up like that...

On another note Lady, can you tell me if dwarf puffers need snails in their diets like other kind of puffer fishes do?

no they do not.
you can feed them a viaraty of live food thought.
bloodworm,daphnie,brineshrimp ect.
i cannot spell daphnie.

and not all puffers have spines.
the spiny ones are called the porkupine puffer.
but i was going to get a brackish one called the green spotted puffer but i changed my mind.
remember if you want to keep a puffer you have to keep it in a seperate tank from other fish (all fish) as the puffer will eat the other fishes (unless the other fish is bigger) but it will still have a go.

You're probably thinking of a porcupine puffer which do look like little spiky balls when puffed.

Puffers usually puff when stressed yes, but sometimes they just do it for no reason. Practicing maybe? :D In this case, Titch spotted the other Brown puffer and because he is smaller decided to make it less noticeable.

Dwarfs tend to suck snails out of their shells rather than crunch through them, but they throughly enjoy it and it really is a sight to see. I would always recommend offering them some.

ok take deep breaths now.......

that just looks like he's had a extra scrummy meal!!

will have to watch the spotted ones at work see if they will huff and puff for me.

Thanks Lady, I'll remember that.

I am planning to get a dwarf puffer for my 10 gallon, should I go with one or two? The tank is planted and other inhabitants are 2 ottos and a mystery snail.

You should be fine with 2 dwarfs in there. The snail might go missing though. :D

It's alright, my lfs gives them out for free. :D They've also got MTS but I read that puffers shouldn't be given MTS as their shell's are too hard...

Will the dwarf puffers enjoy the company of each other, or can I get away with just keeping 1 by itself? Basically what I want to know is whether it is necessary to keep a pair?

Thanks for all your replies so far. :)

Yep, MTS's can cause the puffers teeth to break because they're so hard.

I'm sure one dwarf would be ok by itself, but they do look good as a group and are one of the few puffers that you can keep in groups.

So, do you guys just sit next your tanks with cameras in hand all the time? You always take such great pictures and of the fish doing so many different things!

As I always do with your photos, I enjoyed this one a lot!

And there was me thinking you were talking about MadTankSyndrome... :*) when all your talking about is Trumpet Snails, and just for the record, they shouldn't be given Malasian Trumpet Snails, but they should be given Mad Tank Syndrome!

Actually, most puffers do have tiny little spines, but you can't see them.

He huffed and he puffed!

Just out of coincidence, but my Fantasy Football team is "Huff & Puff Utd"

lol, honestly we don't. :D Having most of the tanks in the living room though means we often see any good photo moments.

Thank you all for the lovely comments! :)
