Having trouble with no bubble-nest?

Kind of rude statements wasn't it? All he done was let the female and male interact for a couple minutes. Big deal. Maybe he should have been asked if he planned on breeding them before he was called stupid. Giving advice is one thing, but insulting someone, whether they know the proper way or not isn't called for. Sorry, but I'm really laughing over the "scared out of their wits ." You didn't hurt a thing BettasRFriends. There is other ways to get them to exercise and want to spawn with each other, but that way can work too. Lot's of breeders have to remove the female after a couple of days, and then return her a day later to get them to spawn. Sorrel gave you good advice, but I wouldn't pay much attention to the rest of the posts.

When the frys grow up, do any of you cull the weaker ones? Yes im still in school but in the summer i plan to build a betta barrack system, no drip emitters though because i have no clue how to use them. Right now is winter in south cali. I also have another question: do females with white/ or light body show horizontal stripes? So far none of my females have any stripes. From what i read in the other topic is that they do not show vertical stripes but how about horizontal?

Regarding female Bettas bought in the average fish store...they don't show stripes unless they are stressed. As they destress the stripes fade again and they go back to their gorgeous colours again. At least that's what we saw with females Snowy bought...once they settled they lost the striping. In other words, in our case, it wasn't good that they showed stripes. But everybody seems to have a different opinion eh? ON THE OTHER HAND, fuzz brain here forgot you were talking about white females. We haven't seen any like that at either lfs. I wish........

Actually SnowyzMom, there's two types of stripes on female bettas. Horizontal stripes are an indication of stress and most likely what you are seeing in the fish stores. Vertical are a sign that the female is ready to breed and it's referred to as "Barring up"

One of my females has horizontal bars
I've had her for over a month. She is healthy, eats as much as the others, isn't chased around and doesn't chase anyone around.

Do the bars still mean she is stressed? If she is, I'd like to know why she is.

WHat I'm really trying to ask is if it is possible she is showing stress bars without being stressed

From what i read from many sites horizontal bars mean she is stressed. There maybe another betta chasing her without you noticing (i mean do you look at your bettas 24/7?) It could also mean she is submissive.

If your sig is current your females are all in communities, she may not be doing so well in there. It's your call for what to do about it. It a community tank there is always going to be a hierarchy so if you pull her someone else will take her spot. Just watch her to make sure that she really is doing ok in there and be ready to move her
