I was wondering what works best to keep room temp and conditioned water on hand for doing water changes? We've been using gallon jugs but most water conditioning stuff has directions for mixing larger amounts like 10 gallons.Would it make sense to keep a 10g container of conditioned water on hand and dip it out with a gallon pitcher?

thanks for the help

If you could keep it close to the same temp as the tank and keep it covered so that nothing unwanted ends up in there it could work fine. If it gets too cold then you would have to warm it before adding it. Your choice. HTH :)

As long as nothing gets in the water, it would be fine. You don't need to heat it. If you did a 25% water change with water that's 8 degrees colder than the tank water, the temp. would only drop two degrees (Celcius), which isn't a big deal for most fish. I don't even worry about what temperature of water I use for water changes; I just go by touch. If you do a water change larger than 25%, make sure it's within 3 degrees © of the tank temperature.

Thanks...we have a covered pail that would work. One tank is room temp, about 72-74%.The smaller one is about 76-78%.It just seems like it would be easier to mix 10 gallon batches...worth a try anyway. My mom wondered what other people do :fun:

depends on how large your tank is. for my 5G hex's I use a 1 gallon jug. but for my 46 I use a 14Qt pail (3.5 gallons)
