Hi all, I think it's time we had a bit of a giggle of some of our members being on the receiving end of their fish/coral/inverts etc so come on share your experiences of what's attacked you and for the more serious cases tell us what you had to do/take to save yourself from the pain/certain death! Lol

It would also be very informative for newbies that aren't so sure what's deadly and what's not in their tanks and what action to take if something take a nip at them!

I myself have had nothing too bad. Just been attacked by by CUC ( hermits and my emerald crab), my larger clown fish and have had a few close shaves with my Zoas!

So come on then, tell us your experiences!

Ahhhhhh! Seffie's in the house! C'mon seff I know your clowns find you tasty! Lol

How do the zoas harm you?
I can safely say after having my tank running for a whole day, yes a whole day im fine and have not been harmed

Well tribesmen used to use the paleotoxin of Zoas in there poisonous darts! If I remember reading correctly!

And I think someone on here had a bad time after getting a bit too close with them. Ended up in hospital with very high blood pressure and heart racing!

Oh dear they sound like violent little buggers.

Ah my monster clowns, you just wait, till yours draw blood - my hand goes in and the jaws music starts playing in my head, those clowns head straight for me, du, du, du, du. du du...........

But seriously, salties should keep anti-histamin in the cupboard, just in case of a reaction
Tell the nearest and dearest, or better still write down whats in the tank, in case you have a massive reaction to something.
Never touch your face after putting your hands in the tank and before washing your hands, in particular with regards to Zoas.

Yep! Funny thing is I was poking em when I first had them in my tank before I found out...............and yes I didn't do it again! Lol

i was cleaning my tank and scraped my hand on some coral....OOOWWWWWWWW. Blood everywhere in the tank, took along time to get clear again :D

What coral was it? Or was it a sharp edge on a bit of live rock?

Aside from my bristleworm fiascos, I've been lucky enough never to have any sort of massive cut/jab/etc. from my tanks. From the number of angry crustaceans I've kept you'd think I'd have had some run-ins, but none so far. However, one of the more painful things I've experienced was my Strombus luhuanus conch jamming its little nasty little sharp operculum right up under my thumbnail. It had been staring at that finger for some time, so I suppose I should've known it was up to something.

Definitely not looking forward to this with my female maroon when she grows. Right now she's too timid to bite, so I just have tail-slapping fights with her lol. Of course, the male just watches me poke at her, so when the hand goes away it's all his fault afterwards.

Nothing yet except every time I put my hand in the reef my arms get very sore from eczema

I scare easily but not had any major injuries yet!

My clown bite me once and he charges at me too if i go near what ever she's hosting. She drew blood but only a minimal amount. Litle madam! She really annoys me cos i'm usually just doing maintenance and she is vicous! She is still small aswell!!

Then there's the cleaner shrimp, Piere who scares me all the time. There i am hand in - doing some cleaning or something and suddenly i feel something crawling rapidly up my submerged arm!! ARGHH, fling my arm out the water, water goes everywhere , up the walls, floor, over me. Then i see Piere looking shocked at my reaction! Everytime he does it! I've learnt to let him climb on first and then do my cleaning so i'm expecting him there! Silly i know but scares the beejeesers out of me!!

Then i had one of my porceline crabs in my malu recently when i was moving it to my parents tank  (still sad!) The porceline was at the foot of the anemone, and i had the anemone in my hand, off the sand/rock and it was sulking cos i'd picked it up. I was trying to push him off using my finger but he just kept hanging onto the foot of the anemone. I tried all sorts to get him off, gave him a piece of rock to get on - no luck! Tried literally picking him up with two fingers.. and this is where it went wrong - he suddenly decided to grab my finger. Now i freaked cos it clamped onto my finger and i was splashing about trying to get this crab off me, literally spraying water everywhere - it bloody hurt as well and he was hanging on for dear life. Then i pulled myself together and braved through the pain, stopped thrashing around and looked at what the situation was. The crab had his legs clamped around my finger, and his two pincers pinching my skin!! So i flicked him off with my thumb (i know thats harsh but it really hurt!) and then he scuttled off to my BTA! I had to add a lot of water back into my tank, and i must say i hope i never have to remove my BTA!! lol

Story times over!! :)

I have poisoned myself 3 times (twice with zoa's and once with a gorg)
Slashed my self once or twice, been bristlewormed twice.

That's all to date but as seffie says every salty MUST have a hazard kit handy.

Does a 2 inch cut along my palm from rough glass edge while putting together my sump count ?
