Hi all,

Just setting up my first tank. The water output from my filter has dropped, is it likely to be faulty, or do I need to check something?

Bought a new SuperFish Aqua Flow 100 Aquarium Filter and installed it on Friday. I have a 2" 60Ltr tank and a steady output jet covered a good half of the tank.

On Monday I noticed the output was pulsing surging-trickling-surging-trickling-etc. The surging reaching maybe half the distance the output had previously done.
By Tuesday the surges had died down and the output is now tricking, slight pulse in the trickle, but not much.

As I said this is my first tank, as yet no fish or plants.
Water was treated with API Stress Coat, not sourced ammonia yet for cycling (still waiting my test kit to arrive so can give no other water details).

Any advice gratefully received

Sounds as if the filter is clogged, in which case striping the filter and gently rinsing pads/sponges/impeller in removed tank water would help, but seems odd considering the filter and tank is so new.

Thanks for the advice N0body!

Took filter apart and cleaned well. Intake had little green slime across slots, and similar on the top of the filter media. (I assuming algae?) Didn't seem a lot to slow/stop the filter to the extent it did.

Filter is now much better, but I will monitor it closely, encase the improvement falls off again quickly.

I too thought this seemed odd as filter and setup is new.

{Should also mention ebay seller has also been very helpful, but selling is maybe a little different to years of experience found here! (hence my post)}

I have got a couple of these filters on small tanks and find that I have to clean them weekly or even more so to avoid them getting clogged. Bit of a pain really.
