Hatchet Fish....

Well i got PFK through the letterbox this morning, and was delighted to see 4 pages dedicated to hatchets. The only things i've read and known about them is how best to keep them (Temp, PH etc etc..), and from watching them in my tank.
The main point of the article was describing how they fly/leap!!! With this i was a bit like... haha
Has anyone ever seen there hatchets fly/leap?
Also, it says best kept in a group of 8. Do you think i have room for an extra 3 in my tank?

I dont have Hatchets but I have seen them in a tank in a fish shop, where there was no lid on the tank. Fatal Mistake .
Around 20 Hatchets where in the tank and when a little child knocked the glass, they took off like rockets. Some landed on the floor, some jumped into other tanks, it was total choas. The store staff were picking them up back into the tank but sadly, some were dead.
I was thinking, how stupid can you be not to add a lid onto tanks with surface dwellers. But that was the only time I've seen them fly. I think they were Marbled Hatchetfish

I've lost 2 of 8 from them leaping out of the tank when I was away and the other half was feeding, she apparently only left the glass cover open for a short while before turning filters back on etc

They're okay but do tend to stay in one place quite a bit, not much of a mover other than when escaping

yep they do jump both the ones my friend brought are now behind the unit his fish tank is on. we where making them jump in the shop aswell

They should be in groups of 8 minimum...I need to get some more too

It would be interesting to have around 20, but at the cost the LFS want to charge for them and the way they just hang in one spot a lot I can't justify that many!
