How aggressive are they and what other fish would definitely be safe as tankmates for them? Was tricked into adopting one and not sure where to keep it.Are they safe with plecs like L001?

Until they reach 3 to 4 inches in length, they are usually peaceable and can be kept with many fish. After that, depending on the individual, they may turn on your other fish and suck the slime coating off of them. This is not always the case however, and some people report keeping them to their full adult size with other fish. It would be hard to say what yours would do though. In most instances they are returned to the LFS when they get aggressive and traded out for another juvenile specimen.

Mine is almost 4 inches and has already attacked angels and probably killed one.
Don't have a car and my nearest lfs is Pets at Home and they don't normally take fish in.What do petshops do with big algae eaters anyway if they are too aggressive?Kill them to get rid of them?
AsI'mfindingit difficult to rehomehtisfish Ihave 2options
Keep it alone-but don't have space for tank or any more sockets for heater, filter
Put in cichlid tankwith L001 pleco, cons, jewels. Will they be safe from aggressive algae eater?

I'm not sure if it would be safe with any fish, especially since it has already become aggressive. Really, it depends on the LFS what they will do with them.

I can't tell you what to do, but if I had a fish that was making it's way through my stock and I had no way to re-home it, I would probably euthanize it for the sake of my stock. To some it may seem cruel, but in my eyes the lives of many > the life of one.

What, to the thousands of people that can properly house one? Oh yes, CAEs are top of everyone's wish list...

I've tried advertising on this forum, Aquarist Clasified, nobody wants it FREE
Frankly, I wouldn't have taken it either had I known. I was told it was a yellow weatherloach
Looks like I'm stuck with it. So, will convict cichlids and a L001 plec be OK with the algae eater? Don't want to keep a tank for years just for one fish, no room

i have a 5" one in my tank and never had a problem
there is everything from clown loaches to oscars in it
i am watchin it very closely just in case
so far so good
