This is very much in the 'idea' stage, but I am putting some serious consideration into creating a fish room in our garage.

I have some very basic ideas of what I want to do & I thought it would be interesting & helpful to read other members journals or blogs to gain some inspiration.

The garage is a big brick double garage which for the last 8yrs has been a dumping ground for all the kids old toys & furniture. If I can clear it, it will be a lovely big space for me to play with.

I will be using insulation boards (hubs sells them) on the walls & ceiling, is it necessary to insulate the floor as well? I am thinking it would be easier & cheaper to heat the room rather than the tanks? I will be starting with 20 tanks I think & see how I go from there.

Lots of planning still to do & fun stuff wont be started until after christmas when my youngest goes to nursery. But between now & then the garage can be cleared, cleaned & all the boards put up & plastered.

If anyone can point me to members posts/journals etc that would be great.

So you being ex-communicated to the garage eh!
Been down the garden path a few times in my life. Fish-Houses now a speciality.
Yeah Insulate the floor for sure. If you have a window (natural Daylight) use it.
Air ring main in ceiling area all around (tap into and bleed off (similar to my killifish set up only large scale)
Think about box ponds for rearing. (In the centre of the room) Made from 2x2 chipboard and cheap pond liner. (blue or stone not black)
You should be able to heat the room with a 3kw fan heater hard wired to a thermostat (don't use a plug-in type as these blow frequently)
Vent it a little using sliding grille vents. Sink is a good idea and provision for water changing (vats in the ceiling or top teirs) drilled tanks make life easier.
I had centralised overflow system tanks in mine. Its a bit hard to discribe but if you can picture a 6x2x2 stood up and the bottom faced off to form a sump and then 3 tanks were constructed into the tower and overflowed into one another until they reached the sump the water was then pumped up to the top level via Eheim classic cannister filters. Places for storage and fry tubs.
Livefoods and a small freezer is handy. Best turn your tanks endways on on their shelving let the bottom tanks pyramid out so you can accesse them for cleaning etc.
I try and think of other things I did back then.
