Hello,

I had my first betta in a 1 gallon hospital tank. He went from his 5 gallon palace. At first I was treating his fin rot with Melafix and he instantly change to a pale color and never wanted to moved. After getting some great advice I switched to just salt in the tank. He definitely did better but his color never changed but he was more active. Well two nights ago the temp dropped outside and all three of my tanks (5G 6G 1G) all dipped in temp by about 8-15 degrees. I was shocked. The bigger tanks were still at about 72 degrees but that’s down from the normal 80. The 1 gallon hospital tank went all the way down to 64 degrees! Poor little Hachi. He was sick, cold, and in a small tank. I went out and bought heaters for the big tanks and decided it was time to put Hachi back in his home. After getting him used to the non salt water in his tank I plopped the stressed, cold, getting over fin rot, betta back in his home. The two ADF's came out of hiding and swam up to him then went back to what they were doing. It was kind of like they were saying "Welcome home kid". He instantly, I mean instantly changed back to his normal color and began to do the betta happy dance back any forth in front of the tank. He was in love with the thermometer...but now he is absolutely in love with the heater. He was hanging out and swimming around the heater most of the night. Can you blame him since he spent the last night in chilly 64 degree water? Any way I thought I would share that I think fish should get more credit then they do as intelligent pets.

Glad to hear Hachi is feeling better :)
I only recently came back to fishkeeping after many years absence and it never fails to amaze me how aware fish are.
