Both of the hang on the side filters I have are second hand so I've basically put the media in how I see fit. Now one of them is spilling water out of the back and all over the floor! I currently have it turned off but I can't leave it like that. I'm thinking I have too much media in there? I have activated carbon in a pouch sitting in the bottom of the filter (which lfs told me to do and it came with one as well, I've only put a new lot in). Then in the top half I have a piece of white sheet media (I'm sure someone will know what I mean), a piece of black courser media and then another piece of white sheet media just before the opening where the water runs through to the tank. I'm thinking maybe the water is backing up because the white media is much more compact than the black stuff? I'm a little worried about taking too much media out (I've already taken out 1/3) obviously so what should I do? I'm honestly tempted to buy a new filter because I just don't like the setup of this one. I'm also assuming how I've got it setup is wrong because the previous owner would've pulled it apart or broken it and put it back together willy nilly.

EDIT: Okay, worked out how to get it from spilling onto the floor, also had a bit too much media and have switched it around to the black course stuff then the white compact media last. Could someone please tell me have I done it right?

Hi,
Not sure, that's what frustrats me. I will send the lady a message who I bought it off but I doubt she'll know :grr: Would you recommend buying a new one? I now have to keep the glass a tad more open as it leaked onto the glass top this morning

Definitely,

Personally I recommend the Eheim Liberty range, reliable good HOB filters, a lot of the smaller ones don't seem to last long at all.
