Hamster Babies (Russian Dwarfs)

Hello people i thought i would write a little entry in my Update on my Dwarf Hamsters, well i witnessed them wriggling out the nest, i think they wanted to come and see me  but mummy MUNCHKIN wasn't happy with the babies she gave them a right telling off and told them to get back into the nest!!!! she dragged each of them back into the burrow. She wrinkled her nose up at me as much HA HA you will have to wait abit longer.

I managed to get a sneak peek at them though!!!! one looks like dad and one looks like mummy and the others haven't got much fur as yet. The odd one is still bald do you think i will have rear it myself or let nature take it's course?

Thanks for reading.

This is the mummy MUNCHKIN sorry if it's blurred. I try and get some baby pics when i get mommy and daddy playing in their ball and away from the nest.

Sorry guys it says file upload failed!!!!

Could some one help me?

Hiya i need some advice!!!! munchkin has not realised that two of her babies are on the loose they have started to crawl around, yet they still blind. She came out and picked them up and dragged them to the old nest and left them there and the other 6 are in the big red house that i provided for her as they were all crammed in the white box and Munchkins legs were hanging out!!!

But now im worried about the two downstairs, do you think she will pick them up and move them later as i just seen her go back into the house to sleep!!!!

I'm worried they might die!!!! Bubbles the dad is sitiing on them in the nest i assume to keep them warm but they always on the move!!!!

The two she has left are honey and white and the other one has a mixed of chinese coat and bubbles black and white patches!!! they look slightly thin is she given them enough milk?

She eats like a horse at the moment, i have to fill her food dish up twice a day!!!!
I also left her some cucumber pieces to mucnh on as she loves them as well as the yogurt drop treats by Rostack.

Thanks for reading!!!

Hi Bigfish, of course I don't mind helping out! :D

I think Munchkin still remember the two young ones there. If Munchkin didn't attend to them after a few hours, you can move the house where the two young ones are sleeping in to upstairs and see if Munchkin will pick them up and move them back with the other babies.

If not, try to scoop the babies up with a big spoon and see if Munchkin rejects them. Perhaps the two are just a bit naughty and the mom decided to give them some dicipline :shifty:

My friend's hams liked to move the babies here and there. The mom liked to move the babies to point A but the dad would move them back to point B

btw, Munchkin is cute!

Thanks feline, i had to intervene abit :/ i picked up the babies with some tissue paper and poked them through the hole of the big red house and they scrambled back in, abit of a task mind you as the little blitters kept refusing to go in!!!! Munchkin on the other hand is muching on some cheese that i just waved in front of her nose.

See when Munchkin comes out to play or to eat she brings the babies with her still attached to her nipples!!!! (ouch that must hurt)

Dad however has left munchkin to it!!!! Much to her disappointment.

At least i got to see them today again and they have grown wildy!!!!

When can i pick them up and handle the little blitters?

Wish Munchkin wouldn't store her food up in the corner that annoys me, she don't eat it.

I promise to get some new pics of the babies when they come out to play.

Should i leave the plastic wheel in the cage as i'm scared the babies might get squashed.

You're welcome Bigfish :D Glad you reunite them with the rest!

See when Munchkin comes out to play or to eat she brings the babies with her still attached to her nipples!!!! (ouch that must hurt)
 I'm sorry but I bursted out laughing  That must b a funny scene!

I guess you'll have to wait another week before handling them (they usually open their eyes when 2 weeks old). And IMO it's better to remove the wheel (which kind is it?) when they start to wander around until they are bigger.

And yes, some baby pics later on would be nice! :D B)

Hi feline,

I was so close to get a pic of the babies as three of them were following mum to the food dish today, One baby fell head first in it and then it couldn't get out so mummy nudge his little butt up. But my diggie cam was downstairs and by the time i came back they had gone back into house!!!!

They scuffled around so much in that roomy house that they have popped the lid off!!!

Bubbles is quite content and watches munchkin struggle to carry the tots up and into the house.

Have you any ideas of how i could split a duna hamster cage in half so i can sex the babies?

I'm going away to ibiza in 7 days and i'm worried about leaving them, my sis said she would feed and water them and play with them. I told her details of the nearest vet etc i bribed her with money

Awww they must be soo cute  , too bad you couldn't get a picture of them in time. Oh no when you come back from Ibiza they'll be so much different from now! How long will you go for?

I have no idea how to seperate a Duna cage  mmm may be the best way is to get another cage! :p But mmm I don't know if I should tell this story cause I never agree my friend of doing this, but anyway here's what my another friend did... He bought 2 pairs of Russian dwarfs, and he ended up with 13 babies all in the same cage! They never reproduced there after I think because it's overcrowded already :(

Anyway it's good that your sis can take care of them while you are away! if she has any questions I'd be happy to help too! :D

Hiya feline i'm only going away for a week, it properly fly by. Is it safe to leave the hamsters altogether with mum? as they only be just over 2 weeks old come the holiday. I'm hoping mum will keep it going.

Everytime i go upstairs the little babies are starting to crawl everywhere!!!! im scared that they might fall off the split level i might take that out then i can see properly then.

Well i must be off i got fish tank duty to do. Groan!!!!

Thanks for all your help, i'm going to take my diggie cam with me upstairs. Hopfully and fingers crossed i will get some pics of the cuties.

Hey! so how's the pinkie baldie little one you mentioned earlier doing? Is he/she developing like the rest of them now?

The babies can be seperated from the mom when they are 3 weeks old, just when you come back from Ibiza. And the minimum to rehome them is 6 weeks, but best is 8 weeks i heard.

Hope you'll have great fun in Ibiza! :D

Hiya feline the pink baldy one is doing really well, it's now developed into fawn with a white band around it's neck, looks odd compared to the rest, i might keep it  coz i fallen in love with it.

Hiya everyone well my babies are doing really well they all putting on weight nicely they starting to fill out now :p maybe its the cucumber pieces i keep feeding them, I been watching them find the water bottle and watching them drink and scabbled amongst themselves of who gets there first......

Hey i manage to get some pics but they aren't very good, im trying to get them to stand still but they just refuse too!!!!
