I got bored and bought a 1/2g glass biscuit jar thingy... Its one of the ones with the flat sides and circular main faces with two corners cut off. Anyway, indended it to be a random mini tank for, say, some pest snails, put a sand bottom, a small flowerpot, some java moss and a fake fern thingy... The sister wanted it. She doesn't like snails... She wants to put something in it, and best choice at the moment seems to be 1 amano shrimp. Any other suggestions?

Ther you go, thats what it looks like. I forgot the lid though, so oxygen exchange wouldn't be paticularly high, but as you can see it's a bit too high for triops which IME are bottom dwellers. And they take a fair while to actually become visible in something like that, and don't live especially long.

there wouldn't be enough oxygen for ghost shrimp, or any shrimp, personaly due to its size, lack of filter/heater etc I think it's totally unsuitable for anything apart from snails, maybe some daphnia (which my 8 year old son finds interesting) though if they get to warm they do die.

if temperature doesnt seem to be an issue i have the almost perfect sollution.
get a container that has a smaller capacity than the jar. then with some airline tubing position the container higher than the jar thing. get the airline and support it to the side of your jar then siphon the water out through the airline so that it trickles out and makes a tiny currnet."well in a half gallon jar its efficient enough and last quite a while. when its empty just top it up. i use it for bigger tanks for fish that dont really need the filtration but they just enjoy it. i dont know if it will work in a tank that small though. worth a try.
