HAIR ALGAE

Ah yes i forgot to ask if it was the long hair type or the short beard type. With the long hair algae (long like a woman's long hair (ok guys can have long hair too but you know what i mean!)) you just twirl it around the brush, very simple, very easy! If it's beard algae that method won't work, it's not long enough to get it wrapped around the brush.

American-flag fish are also said to eat beard/hair algae.

Lastly, I have never heard of an SAE until this occasion. Having just looked over the Internet I did located a site, Siamese Flying Fox, that indicated a 5" fish.
fishkids:

The SAE is not the same thing as a flying fox which you have got in your reply. Take a look at this link SAE. The article also gives you more info on types of algae...

Dubby is correct, and I think it's worth repeating: A SAE is not the same as a Flying Fox.

Here is a good article about algae-eating fish from The Krib.

Siamese algea eaters are often sold as siamese flying foxes in England, to be absolutley certain the scientific name for the fish is Crossocheilus siamensis.

In South Africa SAE is not avalible ever..... what do I do to remove it??

I have a nice planted tank with some in it, but is currently its not a problem( been there for about 8 months now) I just cut the leafs with lots on them , as my plant growth is high

Silly me:

In your case I would advise you to reduce the amount of light and see if the plants actually overtake the algae (knowing that you have around 4W/gal :) )

One thing that I believe will certainly help is Hornwort. It has had a very positive influence on my tank. It has a natural algae inhibitor in it. That with some SAE's has made my tank algae free.
Thanks
Bob

Great news! Thanks everyone for the great suggestions, especially "dubby". It was ultimately the purchase of two fish in his recommendation the led to that *COMPLETE* eliminated of *ALL* hair algae.

:) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

Not sure what fish should get the most credit but we added 1 Molly and 1 Rosy Barb..., and in just 2 days the entire 12G tank was cleaned. -Cheers!
