Hair Algae

Excel is liquid co2. It is pretty good stuff, but can cause some plants to melt. Most plants love it though. :good:

SAE is good. CAE is the bad one... CAE are the ones that suck on fish and get mean. :)

Power washing is great. It can be done with a hand held shower in the tub or sprayer in the sink. Just make sure that the pressure is enough to get it clean without blowing it to bits. (trial and error on that one...) ^_^

I also have had an out break of this hair algae but mine is more green then black
it makes all of the leafs of my plants look yucky
I have a coldwater tank and have snails what might I be doing wrong

I had time for a closer look at my tank last night and the hair algae is still there. I also have a huge snail problem!! I am going to gut the tank. All discus etc are coming out and moving to another tank, plecs into a smaller tank and am going to dose it big time and power shower the plants to get rid of the algae. I will also be powershowering the wood as well as it looks like it is now attached to it!!

Why cant anything be simple!!!!!

I've recently used EasyCarbo to kill off similar algae I had.

I did find however, that there was an ammonia spike due to the decaying algae so just keep an eye on it. Try and remove as much as possible before using a carbon fert.
