Just checked a minute ago... ladies and gentlemen we have fry!!!!


Holy CRAP I knew they were going to be tiny but this is so small!!!

When should I feed them for the first time? I did end up getting bbs eggs and just setup a hatchery an hour ago so I don't think they'll be ready for another day or so. Where should I keep the fry for now? In a net in the adult tank?


EDIT: Ok I've put them all in the bare bottom 10g. I wanted to keep them in the breeder net 'til they were at least a tad bit bigger... but then I saw one little guy swim out the smallest little corner hole.

careful not to overfeed, they need very little. it will pollute the water very quickly. i actually fed decapsulated brine shrimp eggs before any live foods. Amazing how small they are.

Wayhay congrats - yep habrosus are even tinier than normal corys

Try adding a little sand to the tank,otherwise you'll get a build up on the bottom causing bacterial infections in the wee fry...

If you can't get any fry food,then try finely crushed flakes that resemble powder,feed very minimal after the first 24 hours,they will use up their egg sacs first,so any food you put in will just pollute the water.

You can also squeeze mature filter mulm into the tank,the fry will feed on this for a few days,it will mess the tank up,but with daily w/c's you will eventually remove it

Keep an eye on your stats once you start feeding,the ammonia & nitrites soon raise up if your not careful.

Yes there's only about 10 of them so I am very nervous about over feeding. But I will do daily w/c. Do I do this with airline tubing into a bucket, and then check bucket for any lost fry?

Is it beneficial to get shrimp for fry tanks to help clean up waste?

I also added a little sand. I was very nervous that I was going to squish them with "hail" so I added very slowly into a corner then gently spread out.


I never took the second batch of eggs out of the tank. I'm still debating if I want to or not. I guess I have to make a decision asap as they are about a day behind the other ones, which means they should hatch any time now.

I don't know if I want to try them in the tank to see if they get eaten or not. Part of me wants to just raise fry in the adult tank if it's possible, but another part wants to separate so that I can keep an eye on them and make sure they're doing well.

can water change with a bit of stocking over the tube inlet. no worries about scooping them up then.

On another note my bbs isn't hatching. I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or if the eggs are bad. I put the eggs in a 2L pop bottle with an airstone and did the following mixture:
1 tbsp salt per litre
pinch baking soda per litre
1/2 tsp eggs per litre

And put a lamp over it for heat.

Nvm they hatched. It's so hard to tell how much to feed. I only have a couple little guys... I suck up some bbs with a straw but it just looks like so much.

And how long can I keep them/where? I read in the fridge?


On another note... In my adult tank the second batch of eggs have disappeared, I'm assuming they have hatched. But on the glass of the tank I have a whole bunch of white smears (but there weren't any eggs on that wall). What's with that?

EDIT: Found one fry in the adult tank. Put some bbs in there too.

EDIT2: Found lots of fry in the adult tank during w/c. Guess habrosus don't eat their fry, or at least mine don't. Also found 2 dead ones. Decided to move the ones I could find into the fry tank... it was about 10+.

Well it looks like all my female cories are at it today. I haven't even been trying to get them spawn. There are a LOT of little eggies everywhere...

Now, I believe c. habrosus don't eat their fry as there are still some surviving (in adult tank) from the batch awhile ago. And I don't have a good moss patch or anything so I don't think their being good at hiding...

I think this one I will leave the fry in the tank... lol, I know I said that last time around. But I think I will stick to it this time.

I found lots of dead in the fry tank... I couldn't keep my water temp constant for awhile (just due to #105###ty heater...). I think that really hindered things...


What do you think? Should I keep the fry in the adult tank or not? Pros are there's no separate tank to deal with and I've got a mature filter. Cons are I can't keep a very good eye on them just because there's so much they can hide in... also maybe more debris (thus bacteria?) buildup hiding under plants/rocks/wood/etc because I can't vac the sand due to the tube being netted... I don't know.

Sorry to hear about the seperated ones if you have some surviving in with the adults i'd try leaving this lot in, see how they go

I think I will. But I'm going to put all the eggs in a net just to make sure they all get air flow as I lost quite a few to fungus when I just left them in the tank.

So I counted well over 100 eggs. And many were lost in the tank too.

This time around I put them in one of those fish catching nets. A lot of people seem to do it but to me it seems like a bad idea? They're all in one big clump which means one fungus egg could quickly affect another. And when I try to put it under the airstone, the net blows up and the eggs will fall out if I don't quickly drag it away!!

I'm also going to get some red cherry shrimp for the adult tank. I'm getting mixed reviews about whether or not they eat eggs (I think fry wouldn't be a problem as they move??), but most of the experiences have been that they turn over/clean the eggs and eat unfertilized/fungus eggs (yuck, not my idea of a nice treat). Thoughts?

OMG HORRIBLE. I was watching the adult cories and searching for the few fry I left in the tank. Well I found one and he was swimming around an adult and I thought, "yay, he's not eating it!!"

THEN HE TURNS AROUND AND SUCKS HIM UP. It was horrible to watch. He ate some then spit it out, then ate more, then spit out on and on.

I'm so sad. I feel like a bad parent. I immediately took apart the tank and siphoned out any little guys into the fry tank with airline tubing. I'm 99% sure I got them all.


So THAT solves my little conundrum... this third batch will definitely go into the fry tank..........

Ok sorry for so many posts... Just trying to keep this updated.

I now have 10 or so fry in a bare bottom 10g. I am emptying a bucket a day (roughly 50%). I have noticed some of the fry have red bellies. I will edit this post with pictures later... Currently my home Internet is down so I'm using the service on my bfs iPhone.
