Hi

I have 2 cobra tail guppys, and thier body is white. Last night we noticed that one of the guppies body had turned black and the other one looked like he was on the turn, when i had a look this morning both of thier bodies where jet black and a while later they have turned back to thier original colour, does anyone no why this happens?

Thanks

Yes, saw your question sim, just don't know the answer.

I had lots of fancy guppies with big fancy tails years ago but I don't remember the guppie bodies changing color that dramatically!

Have you recently added any new fish or changed your tank drastically?

Hi simplysim :)

I'll move your thread over to the Livebearers section for you. The guppy keepers over there might have some answers for you. :D

how long have you had these fish and what other fish are u keeping?

Cobra's generally do have a bark body colour.

Hi thanks for replying, its really strange it happend again last night and when i got up in the morning they turned back to thier colour, must be a night time thing. I did read somewhere that guppies can change thier colour with thier mood and also the atmosphere.

Just out of curiosity, did this correspond with you turning the tank lights on and off?

No because I put the lights on around 4pm and i turn the light off around 11pm if not earlier, it seems they start to go change colour around 9pm or 10pm and when i am up in the morning at 6am they are still dark but are starting to go light again.. it really is odd, I dont think they are sick because it happens to both of them at the same time of day..

They are pearly in colour normally and go really black at night. Im not an expert on gubbies or any kind of fish as im a new to having a tropical tank but i have done a bit of research and not been able to read anything where it says that cobra tails change colour all the time.

Thanks

one of my young females body goes from black to pale grey depending on how the light hits her, could be a similar thing?
