Hi, I have 2 female pregnant guppies, when i got them home from the LFS I noticed they both had what looked like slime growing on them. 1 has a spot of slime growing on her back the other has it on 1 fin. Can I treat it as normal with Anti slime & velvet by INTERPET or can I not medicate them because they are pregnant? please help

I have guppies and when I had an Ich outbreak I treated for it with QuICK Cure. After 12 days of treatment I had lost one male guppy but a couple fry had been born during the treatment period. I don't know if that helps though.

check the water quality first because fish produce excess mucous when they are stressed.
Most fish can be treated if they are pregnant but if you use too much medication the young can be damaged and end up deformed or still born. You can use a slightly lower dose rate and it should still treat the disease. But check the water first.

To work out the volume of water in the tank
measure Length x Width x Height in cm
divide by 1000
equals volume in litres

When measuring the height, measure from the top of the gravel to the top of the water level. If you have big rocks or driftwood in the tank, remove them before measuring the height.

Before you treat the tank do a 50% water change and complete gravel clean. This will reduce the gunk in the tank and allow the medication to work more effectively. It will also lower the pathogen count in the water and mean there are less nasties around to infect the fish.

Remove carbon from the filter before treating otherwise it will absorb the medication out of the water.
