Tank size: 3.5 gallon Q tank
pH: 6.5
ammonia: 0.25
nitrite: 0
nitrate: 0
kH: n/a
gH: n/a
tank temp: 80 F

Fish Symptoms (include full description including lesion, color, location, fish behavior): For a few days I've noticed one of the guppies in the Q tank laying on the bottom. I just thought it was resting, but today I noticed it falling slowly to the bottom vertically, tail first. I scooped it out and put it into a seperate container of clean water (dechlorinated) and it swam around for a little bit, but then it stopped and just started to float again... Upside down, vertically, etc. His mouth is moving pretty rapidly, so guessing that's gasping for breath? He'll perk up for a little bit and swim normally, but then he'll go back to just floating like he ran out of energy.

Volume and Frequency of water changes: 50% twice a day to keep ammonia down in Q tank.

Chemical Additives or Media in your tank: Tetracycline tablets. On third day of treatment for finrot (sick one not the one with finrot)

Tank inhabitants: 2 other guppies and a danio.

Recent additions to your tank (living or decoration): nothing

Exposure to chemicals: Just the tetracycline

Digital photo (include if possible): I can try to get some better pics of him if need be.

Well, it died just a few minutes ago. After I typed this out, went back to check on it and it was dead :(
Still curious what might've happened to it.

When I inspected his lil body closer.. I noticed a couple of red specks on his belly... What is this?

Well for starters you have an ammonia figure which you should never have in a healthy cycled tank. How long has the tank been running and when did the cycle finish?

It's not a cycled tank, that's why I've been doing large frequent water changes.
They're in the quarantine tank. We got them a little while ago when we had thought our main tank was done cycling.
Not sure how long the tank has been up for.. about a week I think... give or take a day.

From what I've observed, the danio hasn't really been doing anything except for darting around like every danio does... (she thinks she's gonna get fed).
My danio is from our main tank. I put her into the hospital/quarantine tank to treat her finrot for a 2nd time (didn't go away completely first time).
It doesn't look like she bothers the guppies any. The guppies will play in the bubbles from the bubblewand, and she'll watch them.. but that's about it :p

Hmm... well, it's a theory. Maybe someone else who has a danio/guppy tank will have some info if this is true or not.

I was just talking to my friend on a MMORPG, x.x and she's been an Aquarium Hobbiest for a few years and I asked her first about my cloudy aquarium problem first and then the subject traveled to the guppies and danios being together and she said this;

You say, "So it's it's likely when no one's looking the danios are gonna pick on the guppies?"
Schylure: yeah
Schylure: especially with their tails.
You say, "Because after further inspection on my guppy which I found dead, her side fins were eaten off."
Schylure: yeah more than likely it was them...
You say, "And I did however, before I took her out of the tank, see one of my smallest fry going at her tail when she was dead. x_X;"

So I think we've come to a possible, slim reason why your guppy died, I'd suggest perhaps keeping your guppies and danios seperated. o.<

But I am fairly certain that the danio isn't picking on the guppies. None of the dead one's fins were nipped. It was very lethargic for a few days and then today just started to do the vertical/floating thing.

I really do not believe that the danio was the cause of death and perhaps it was just sick when we got it.. but *shrugs* I dunno. I'll be watching the tank though to see if the danio is doing something to the 2 remaining gups.

Offtopic.. what MMO do you play? WoW?

Furcadia actually. <3~ PM me sometime and I could link you. :3

But maybe it was just my danios, since my two smallest fry were I had noticed picking at her. She was doing perfectly fine for the first two days, but then she started acting awkward and swimming funny, to the top then floating down as if she were out of energy, then she'd move again then float back down. When I went to remove her deceased body from the tank I noticed her two side fins were eaten away and the two fry nipping her tail and pulling her.

I dunno, I just don't think I'll be mixing Danios and GUppies again anytime soon. x_X I wish you luck on your's though.
