I have a guppy that, when looking down into the tank, appears to be S shaped.
I recently changed water and cleaned the tank so i'm not sure if he is just super stressed out or if there is a more serious problem. Its been several hours now with no change in shape. Also, the fish in question as well as one other guppy seem to be a bit FAT around the middle.
Ive heard where some females ready to have fry seem to deform?
Ive heard that it might be a bacterial problem?

I dont know what to do?
Seperate the two chubby guppies from the tank?
Do I run for the LFS and get some Melafix?

PS.
All lvls appear normal(PH, NH3&4, Nitrites)

Thanks for any help

Mike

Sorry, I can't be a lot of help...but my husband and I did have guppies a while ago and we had one that was shaped like an "L". The guppy was born that way....we figure he had a broken back or something. He lived a happy life for quite a while. Again, sorry I can't be more help.

Thank you for your speedy feedback
I feel more confused than ever now. So many different opinions. At least we all agree that somthing is wrong :D
I think ill bring a sample of water and the fish into my LFS after I can dig out of this blizzard. ( they are exceptional )
I'll post back when I know more

thanks again all

I have a female guppy right now who's back is bent at an odd shape. It could be caused by a couple different things; I've read that this could develop because of lack of nutrition, sudden water temperature/lvl changes or even be born that way. It is probably no big deal, the guppy may just have a bent back

If it is not a parasite it is likely due to inbreeding... if the fish was like that when you got it it could be genetic. In the same sense it is a bad idea for us to mate with our cousins it is true for guppies. Enough inbreeding and they end up with bent back. If it was like that when you got it. But this is not something that likely will deveolp over time. The fat guppies, if they are females could just be prego.

Good luck,
Pat
