Hi there, one of my females gave birth today of about 30 fry. This must be my seventh batch since November. Not all from the same female I might add. Can anyone tell me at what age can the fry have babies as I have a couple from the batch in November that are looking rather fat.
It is so exciting watching them give birth and then rearing them, I have just set a 16 gal tank up for my mum and given her loads of babies so she can start breeding them herself.

they will be sexually active at about 6 weeks...so you ought to consider seperating them...

To be honest depends on the fish, my current fry are just over 6 weeks, and not sexauly mature yet, much to my anoyance, I sexed them out the bast I can, I exspect I missed a couple.

4-6 weeks is the average. Female can birth as young a 3 months.

My fry are about 5-6 weeks old and I don't know how to sex them.

the only way to tell is to closely watch the males anal fin, they are sexually mature when the anal fin forms into the gondpendium(sp?) it is white and tubelike in shape. they will need to be separATED AS SOON AS YOU SEE THIS

If you look REALY closely, you can see the fist 2 rays in the anal fin thickening. Thats how I've just done mine, as the female are very light and I can't figor what gravied and what food.
