Hello all. This forum has been massive help to me over the last 3 months since we got our 30l tropical biorb.

I know many dislike the tank and I can understand why with the upkeep it demands but every I have been very dedicated with my water changes and slow introduction of stocking and have been really pleased. Having added our final fish into the tank 6w ago we were surprised to get 6 fry on the filter 2 weeks ago. After popping them in a clear plastic bag, going to pets at home and getting them a nursery I trawled your pages for what fry they may be (initially I suspected our big yellow Molly as the fry were so yellow but now i know he is a boy lol) so cannot be him!

We have 3 platy females and I suspect one of the red ones is squared off and quite ready to drop. We also have 3 make guppies one of whom is hassling her a lot, which is what alerted me to her possibly being ready to drop. We were given a 15l biorb from a friend and am going to use it as a nursery tank with tights over the filter to save the fry.

My main question is this I have transferred some ceramicedia from our established tank as well as filled it with water from there, and half that filter to maintain some bacteria and hopefully minimise any cycling needed. I need to get the female platy away from the guppy into the new tank but I don't know how long I should wait. I don't want to put her in and risk hurting her if ammonia spike occurs.

Sorry for the essay and thank you

Wont the fry still get sucked into the Ceramic media and get shredded up, if you put the tights over that then I don't see a problem. The longer you leave the media that you transferred, the more bacteria will die (they need a constant supply of food) so it would be preferable for you to move the fish sooner rather than later. Do you have a test kit as this will help massively, if you continue to moniter the tank and do any water changes that may need to be done then you should be alright. One platy and a few fry wont be much of a bioload.

Thank you. male Molly now also making chase of both red platys, so have transferred both into little one. More babies soon :)
