Guppy Breeding

So long as the female doesn't get bullied too much then you should be fine (in theory there is no excuse for her not being pregnant with two eager males!!) I agree though the best scale is 2-3 females per male, your female seems to be holding her own so if you don't plan getting more fish and don't want babies then all is okay :)

Hi All,
I'm new to this forum, and just quickly glancing around I know that the help I need is right here!
I have 3 female guppies and 2 males right now. Last night I put one of my females in my breeding trap for the first time. I looked about 2 hours ago there were about 6 fry :D . She's slowly birthing more, and I must say I am QUITE  excited for it is my first batch that I am trying to keep. I currently have a 5 gallon tank that I put the fry in. The tank only has a corner of gravel with a handful of plants. I also have a heater in there, keeping the water just above room temperature. I'm hoping that that is all I really need. I currently have 15 or so fry darting around in there. What do you suggest I feed them? I've crushed up some flakes really finely, but I have not fed anythin to the fry yet. I was told to also boil an egg, then take out the yolk and disolve the yolk in some aquarium water and feed it to them? Sound right?? I really wanna keep this batch of fry! So any help/advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! THANKS A BUNCH IN ADVANCE!

You could try the boiled egg as its high in protein but modern regular fish flake has all the nutrients fry need:

Feed them little and often - 3 times a day for maximum growth- with finely crushed flake food (as fine as you can crush it, use your fingers and rub them together really grinding it up very finely because any large bits will remain uneaten and will rot polluting your tank). When your baby fish have grown to about one inch which will take between two and four months you can release them back into the aquarium with their parents or this is also the size when fish stores will be willing to buy livebearer fry off you. Growth will vary on quality of food and also of tank temperature.

Welcome to the forum

Yes, the females often do not release all their babies on the one day, it can be spread out over as much as ten days often her dropping one or two babies a day. Keep alookout for more babies :)

Hi Brad

I have a question for you Im having teething problems with rearing guppy fry, 1 has died of Velvet Disease i think? and 1 had died of an internal hemmorrage, could you tell me why this is happening? and how could i prevent this? i keep to a good maintance shedule and do water changes every three days, i've also added some salt to the aquarium.

Am i doing enough?

My guppy still hasent dropped, she has been preggy for about 30 days, she is massive ihave had her in a breeding net for 4 days and she seems happy enough, and eating very well, is it adviseable to let her out and net her at night? do fish generally give birth at night? :p

Hi everyone, sorry for the late reply, my internet was down for a while because of an ice storm.

I'll need a few days to catch up before i can figure out what is what.
