Guppy Birthing

i have a pregnant female guppy in with 4 males, and two of the males keep nipping her fins and chasing her. im a little worried she'll get distressed, and was recommended popping her in a coke bottle bottom floating at the top to seperate her.

does this seem okay? and now long should i leave her in there for at a time? her gravid spot is pretty big now, so she cant be far off dropping!

I think you should remove her. Guppies should have 2 females per each male, that means you'd need 7 more females. The female you have now is probably very very stressed, if you keep her in the tank, she might get so stressed that she'll die. Either rehome 3 males and buy another female, or rehome the female (or move the female or males to a different tank). Don't leave her there too long, it sounds small and she'll be stressed. Look at her size, not her gravid spot.
BTW, looking at your siggy, I suggest you remove the male or female betta, males and females should not stay in the same tank unless you're breeding, there is a high risk they'll get injured, and possibly kill each other.

no to the coke bottle base but the theory is correct, get a tuperware tub or something the same and float it in the tank, i did this for 3 weeks with no problem once, yes ideally you should have more females tanh male at the ratio of 2:1 or more, try to fing something that is big enough to give her some room to swim maybe about 8" X 8" she'll be less stressed in there than in with the males hassling her to breed. but use this as a temp measure until you either buy more females or get rid of some of the males if not all, bearing in mind that she is pregnant so you will soon have lots more guppys that you can choose to keep to get the right ratio. good luck and keep us posted.

you say that the gravid spot is big, thats a good sign that she is close but her general size should give you a better idea, that is unless she is young and its her first brrod then she will seem thin but with a large gravid spot, hope that helps you, the bettas should be seperate even though i know that they came from a breeder who had them together anyway and the thought of them being wild types did come up, so you need to find out for sure if they are wilds, this post will give you an idea of what could be done to resolve your issue and i hope you take the advise.

Not to be rude, but wild types don't come in white. And wild females are usually buff in color, very drab.
Unless breeding, I don't think those two should be together.
If you aren't worried about her fry, why can't the gravid female be put in a breeder box?
If you are, then maybe she should have her own tank.
She is going to be continually harrassed by the males who lack any other female company but hers.
This may even stress her to death.

and yes, the bettas are currently breeding but theyre fine to be together. theyre a mated pair, they came together and have their own territories, but thanks for your concern.

looks like i might have to invest in some more female guppies then! haha..what a shame..!

hmmm... still don't think it's a good idea, but I guess it's ok as long as there's no trouble now. You sure should invest in some more females. Make sure you have enough space though. Good luck!
