hi guys, i have this guppy who seems to have been pregnant for a long time and she has not dropped. she is in a separate tank with fry from a platy who had them 2 months ago. it is well planted up temp at 80f. but she seems not be having her babies. i do a 20% weekly water change.
her gravid spot is big and black and sometimes i can see the fry's eyes. and also when i turn the light off it disappears and then comes back on when the light is on, same with the other female i have in the tank. she has been showing signs she is going to drop but nothing is happening. i even fed her cooked peas just in case she was bloated but she wasn't but she loved the pea. :)  what can i do to make her want to have her babies and make her feel safe.
Please help......

Could it be that you have just miscalculated the length of her pregnancy and it hasn't been 5 weeks? If you can see the eyes, chances are it will be within a week or so from when you first saw the eyes (if you can see the silver ring around the eyes probably less than a week).

she is only a small guppy, all i can see is the black dots which makes the gravid spot.

It will be better if you could post up a pic. Alternatively have a look at the thread in the beginners section which shows you pics of guppies at different stages.
It could depend on the guppy too. Mines was square when I bought her, a week and a half later-she's still square lol!

Guppy's gravid spots can be different colors. I don't breed them anymore, but my females have had gravid spots that were anything from pink to completely black. Some of them have gravid spots that were blotchy (a bit greyish with black patches and spots). Is it possible that maybe your guppy has a blotchy gravid spot and they may not be eyes?

I agree a picture would be great to see if she is pregnant and guess how far along.

Maybe some pictures will help.

This one isn't clear but if you look carefully in the gravid spot you can see the light dots that are the eyes with the silver ring. This was taken 2-3 days before the fry were born. Her gravid spot was always pink, so a lot easier to see inside.

This one, however, has a dark gravid spot and I could never see much. (A tip... if you are ready first thing in the morning before the sun comes up and switch on the tank lights, the gravid spot will sometimes be pink while the fish is sleeping or freshly woken up and allow you a view... if you manage the right angle!) This one gave birth a few hours after the photo.

yeah in the morning a couple of times where the gravid spot is pinkish and then it goes black. here is that pic of mine that you asked for

Her gravid spot does look quite wide and her belly is nicely rounded, but she doesn't look like she is squaring off yet.

She looks like she has at least a week or maybe more to go yet.

Yeah, I agree.  Maybe a week.  Really depends on how many she is carrying.  If this is her first time and she has less than 20, then maybe a week.  If she is cooking up a lot more maybe longer.

it will be more beneficial / improves their lives.   to drop the temp Down to 74f  do a weekly water change.of 50% and   feed some live food,
( prairiesunflower   it don't depend on how many fry she is carrying ,
