I've been planning on getting guppies for a while now, and I finally went out and bought some today. :D There are two males and two females, and both females are pregnant. Being that my breeder net won't fit in the tank, I'll probably end up having to chase guppy fry throughout the tank so I can put them somewhere else. Oh lovely. Being that I never thought I would be getting guppies, I brushed up on breeding so correct me if I am wrong - a darker gravid spot on a pregnant female means that birth is imminent? I'll go post more questions in Livebearers, like I said earlier, I only brushed up on breeding.

There tank is really bare right now, but I'm hoping to do an island theme to it as soon as I get the cash. :sly: I had to take one small live plant from my trop tank because I couldn't find a live plant I liked at the LFS - I'm picky! I'm just wondering if anybody knows if sand is safe in a guppy tank?

Okay, enough with the information! Here come the pics! :kana:

Here are the guppies:

More soon :)

hope their temp doesnt get too cold... or fluctuate... cuz guppies will get diseases if things like that happen..

the dark spot and them bein fat means they pregnant...

looks like ur gonna have some fry soon... u could always jus put like 4 plants in there and let the babies hide amongst them... so the breeding net wouldnt even be needed

jus my ideas

I'm already quite aware of that and am monitoring the temperature of the tank closely. My family has had guppies before in our trop tank, but I personally have never cared for them on my own.

Here is a picture of the tank, you'll have to excuse the flash and blurriness of the photo...:

You picked some very pretty fish. You may want to provide one ore two more females as the attention that the two that you have may prove too much for them :D . Perhaps if you can find some floating stems of bushy plants you won't need the trap and some fry will survive on their own...

Thanks, jams.alaskan. My LFS will only sell me male-female pairs, but I think I may be able to ask them for just two more females... or just go to another fish store. :p My two females look like they are going to explode, I've never had pregnant fish before so seeing such a small fish with such a huge middle is new to me! :fun:
