I've just bought some more male and female guppies, but they're not all swimming around the tank.....

Most of them are hanging around at the surface in roughly the same position (no.... they're not dead!!) as if they are trying to get air, I've got an air pump bubbling away and there are lots of bubbles floating around the tank (the rest of my fish are fine!)

Whats wrong with them? The temperature is 26oC

Thanks, Paul :/

uhmm.. temperature changes might be a reason. did you let the plastic float for 20mins to let them adjust to the temp?

when that happened to me, their bodies were crooked and they died after 15mins

how long has tank set up ?

how many fish did u add? and in the tank

how about ph and other tests ?

how big tank

any fish lookin sick ?

do u have any other filters ?

The tank has been set up for about 5 months, no problem with other fish

I added 8 fish, there are about 16 fish already in the tank (i.e. neons, platies and mollies)

pH is fine, I tested that yesterday, other tests appear normal

The tank is 125 litres

There is one fish which looks slighly odd! Its slightly curved, but it seems ok apart from that!

I have a built in filter (Juwel filter system) and I have installed an under gravel filter

20 mins is a bit much. float them for about 5 max for them to get used to the temp. Then open the bag and add several small cups of water every now and again. guppies are sometimes shipped in slighty brackish water and they struggle to cope with the sudden change in water chemistry.

Hi Paul

I had exactly the same experience with 5 female guppies which I added 9 days ago ie they were all congregated at the top of the tank in a corner not moving. However within a day or so they were fine and happily swimming around the tank. I think they were just probably being a bit wary of their new surroundings.

Unfortunately 2 of my male guppies died over night :( . Don't know what happened really, maybe the water was too different from what they were used to in the pet shop. Although, one of the males has survived (so far!)

Sorry to hear about that Paul. When I got my Guppies their were two females that also congregated at the top but after about 36 hours they were fine and they still all seem fine. In fact one of them seems better than fine, ready to burst. :/
