Guppies Tails In Shreds

It could be the tetras, but although you don't see the Betta doing anything, I still believe he's the prime suspect.
Can you divide the tank & keep him separate for a while?

How would I divide tank? I asked in my local pet shop & they said tank dividers aren't available any more and they advised me to buy another tank but I do not have the room for any more tanks.

i would agree with mark most tetras are quite nippy especially towards longer finned fish,

are they? neons and cardinals are often recomended to be put with guppys i have both with no problems, should i expect future problems?

I have guppies and have neon tetras in with them and they don't bother with each other and have had no problem with my guppies. They both keep themselves to themselves. I have also had a betta in with neons and they were the same too.

It will be ur betta. If u do research on the net you will come to the conclusion, betta + guppies = disaster 90% of the time. I found a betta in a fish shop by me where the tanks were in awful condition and i wanted to buy him but I did a thread on here and asked if they could live together and the conclusion was definitely no!

Buy another tank for ur betta. That's what i did and I'm taking 1 on which is in a similar position to yours

You were right it was the beta as the tail shredding still went on last night even though I removed the red eyed tetra. I'm taking the beta back to the shop today as the shop had said he would be fine with guppies. I suppose its either that or I will lose the 6 guppies.

It had to be the Betta, they are sneaky little things and know when your not watching, mine took all my shrimp through the night, never once saw him chase them through the day.

Or you could give the betta another tank by himself. They seem to like having their own space.

I've just had a similar problem, but mine was a male dalmation molly nipping my betta and constantly chasing my danios.
I took him out and the tank is in harmony again :)
