I read somewhere that if a gravid guppy was stressed, she can reabsorb her undropped fry. Ever heard of that? I put my gravid female in a breeding trap thinking she was about due. The next day her gravid spot started to shrink and no fry in trap. I do not believe she ate them. It is the second time it happened.

It sounds like she may have reabsorbed them. Breeding traps are very dangerous to use. No fish like them and some will become so stressed that they die. I do not recommend traps to anyone, they are just dangerous for the fish. The best way to breed guppies is to have a tank with tons of plants (real or plastic doesn't matter). The fry will have plenty of places to hide. Preferably a separate breeding tank should be used but I have raised many fry in my community tanks. A separate tank is preferable because that way you can make sure the fry are getting enough to eat.

I have seen a female guppy abort her fry and she then eat all the dead fry.
She had no gravid spot after.
I think thay do that sometimes.
It's like having a clean out.

hi like there said she may of eat in them and i do not like breedding traps i only use them to put the fry in after the female drop so that the bigger fish do not eat them and i can feed them the food there need like white worms .

I do not believe she ate them because her gravid spot only shrank slightly and can tell she is still gravid. Who knows maybe she dropped or aborted only a few and ate them. Anyways I am taking your advise and took her out of the trap and will use the trap to protect the young fry. Thanks
