Well it seems to be healing up now, im thinking the fish could have tried to nibble a spikey fake plant and hurt itself... ill see how it goes.

Possible culprit?

Is that a plastic plant? I never seen a plant like that. Seems a little spikey looking according to the picture. You may want to think about removing it, especially if it's spikey feeling when you yourself touch it.

Glad to hear he's doing better and it seems like nothing major!

Yeah its fake and yeah its spikey, i'll remove it tomorrow so i dont stress the poor fish out more.
