Anyone every keep only male guppies in their tanks? I know they're peaceful fish, but was wondering if anyone has had problems occur with only males (3 of them) kept together. Tank size they're going into is a 10 gallon.

I had a male adult and two male youngsters in a five (still do). The adult was ok for a while then started picking on the others and is now leaving them alone. I bet this was because he was older and wanted to keep the youngsters out of his territory. If platies are like guppies, though, then there shouldn't be a problem.

There is a pecking order to male guppies. The males do tend to pick on each other sometimes but its not usually vicious. If you don't want guppies breeding its best to keep them separated by their sex.

when i had 2 males together with no female they used to chase and nip each others fins....So my guess is its best to keep atleast 1 female per male.

I have a very dominant male in my tank and any male that comes in knows right away who's boss. I find male guppies can get aggressive, especially when they get older(my most mature male is the dominant one who bullies the teenager males). I've never had any really bad attacks between my males, but to lesson the stress between the less dominant males, a female distracts males from picking on one each other so i would advise having females too. This is just my experience with guppies, but i've heard some people dont have problems with all male tanks. Maybe if you bought a bunch of young males together, then maybe it wont be as bad.
Is it that you dont want alot of babies or that females aren't as fancy looking as the males?
