Oh my, well when I came back from the doctors, I sat down looked at the tank and thought I saw my female in the trap then thought that/s impossible, I must be seeing her on the other side. When I looked closer-she was in the trap  I couldm't believe it. I had 7 2 week old fry in there, I have 6 but maybe I can't see the other one. When I was about to put the net in to get her out-she jumped out herself.
Has anyone else experienced this? I have never seen it before!

Yes NY..... My tanks in the fishroom have no lids on..... whenever I fill up.... I fill to at least 1.5" from the brim.....(and even so), I have found the floor strewn with Guppies when I fill a little too much....

Omg, that must be a scary sight. I'm glad I have a lid on it (safety first with my toddler) but I like the open top ones better. I need to keep an eye on her I don't want my fry to go missing lol

I had a female guppy that did the same last year. One of the other females was in the trap having fry and another of the females thought she'd go and keep her company ... and have a snack at the same time.

They can jump out of the tank aswell as Ludwig has said ... I've seen them do it.

I think they're confusing themselves with lemmings

One of my orange molly's jump out the bucket the other day whilst I was cleaning out the tank. Luckily I saw it otherwise I'd have a dead Molly and thanks to his attempts to do the great escape he now has a nice red bruise on his head

That shouldn't make me laugh but it did! If I hadn't witnessed her jump back out herself, I would have gone crazy wondering how she got in there! 1 fry has been eaten, there's definitely only 6 now :(

Oh that's not good, hopefully it will be ok and wont do it again!

guppies are pretty dumb really - they'll do it again and again and never learn. It's the only time I can believe the 3 second memory myth!

ive been watching him to make sure hes ok and he seems to be fine to me if anything its made him turn into a hornier little devil he wont leave my females alone lol

Haha! he's fine then! My new male has "gone to work" straight away

Even with a lid, my fish can jump into fry net if they want. My catfish keeps trying to get in with the fry, sees he can't, and blows bubbles under the net instead. There is now a huge bubble of air under the fry cage. Crazy kitty.

But at least the carbon net lid keeps my fish in the tank.

That's it-a lid. I will buy pop socks or tights tomorrow and cut them and put it over the top of the trap.
*has just had an image of a guppy bouncing on it like a trampoline*

I thought about putting a tiny lid on the box too, but since no fish got in...
And yeah guppy might bounce but it might just get caught there and dry up...

My Sunny was a notorious jumper. Used to jump out of the net if I tryed to catch him, and he was very good at it too. A few times I had to scoop him up off the floor. Silly boy. I had to put my hand over the net, but since he was so tame in the end I used to just scoop him up with my hand out of the water if I needed to. He didn't seem to mind that as much. Maybe 'cause it was dark and confinded?

Micky, one of my Platies, will jump too if she's excited by something (or sometimes it seems like nothing). She'll do little flips out of the water! Not to try and jump out, just to have fun : )

my female guppy jumped into a pot of clove oil last night :-(

I used to scoop out most of my fish by hand. But Tzuppy hates being taken out of the water. He will sit in my palm as long as he's at the surface of the water (and nibble on my fingers), but if he sees himself out of the water, he splashes.
His dead buddy Seadra used to be a tame hoplo, he would let me take him out of the water any time.

Ouch... You seem to be having a lot of clove oil trouble...
