how do you breed guppies and endlers? can you tell me if you need the male to be a guppy or does it not matter? If you had a big finned male guppy and a female endler would (aproxamitly) half the babies have big fins?

They will cross easily.
However long finned males are unable to breed if the gonopodium (modified anal fin) is elongated.

Get one of each species and add water wait 3 weeks and they should start popping out. You will probably need to keep the female of either species in isolation for 3 months before introduction to the male as she will have undesired sperm stored.

Like the simplicity but it's not true.

You need virgin females to be be sure of a cross.
as the females store sperm for several months you cant be sure if the have been breed before.

I did say that and you can speed the time frame of pregnancies by raising the temperature but this in turn reduces the longevity of the fish.

Endlers and guppies shouldnt be bred together as some say you need to keep the strain pure but im sure the fry would be cute pics needed! when u have them of course :D

Just get 2 female guppys, wait for them to have fry, give the males/females to lfs and keep the males/females and then keep them in a divided tank i.e virgin female guppys in 1 side and male endlers in other side. Once you have the guppy x endler crosses, breed those & the guppies & endlers that you started with till the guppies and endlers die off. Then you will be breeding just endler x guppies so its all in one tank if your breeding one strain of endler x guppy i.e black bar, tiger etc.. thats when you need 1 tank for every endler x gguppy strain.

phew lol, that sounds complicated but gets easy once your used to it.

Also, every now and then outbreed the endler x guppies with some other endler x guppies from a adifferent bloodline, or you could hav 2 bloodlines yourself to interbreed with :).

I would have thought that the female would need to be a guppy (going by the genetics we did at uni) as if dad is bigger than mum then she would struggle to give birth and possibly cause death :S obviously not the same for fish
