guppie fry all the same colour and its annoying me

hey,

I just recently got 2 batches of guppie from I think from one of my yellow guppies.

All the fry are yellow like their mother or silver greyish, this must be the fathers colour.

But I only have one other guppie in the tank and its red. I think its a female but im not sure.... but ive had my 2 guppies for over 6 months which is how long i think the female can have the babies once she has mated... so this isn't making sense..

Is my red one a male and have they mated and its just a genetic that the babies are either yellow or greyish silver?

When livebearers mate, the female often "stores" the male's sperm. Some goes to the current batch, and the rest is saved for later. A guppy will be pregnant for about one month. If you have no males in the tank, the female would easily use her stored sperm from the lfs and have batches in the tank, but would eventually "run dry."

Guppies are often so inbred that any colors could show up in the fry. The easiest way to tell a livebearers sex is by the anal fin. Females will have what looks like a fanned fin, and males are pointed. If you indeed have one male and one female, I would suggest getting more females to spread the male's attention. HTH

Thanks.. but thats where the problem begins... you see all my fry are yellow or greyish silverish... and I have a yellow guppy and a red guppy both are adult. But my yellow guppy does not look fat or anything but my red one does look a bit more fat so im thinking that the red one is having the babies.... but IM PRETTY SURE THEY ARE BOTH FEMALE and ive had them for over 6 months now... SO I REALLY CONFUSED! But as you said it could be genetic... as they cross breed!

Can anyone sort this out for me?

Guppy fry when first born are generally very bland in color and colors like reds/blues or metallic colors only start to show as the fry begins to grow and mature. Don't worry, your guppy frys colors will begin to show properly once they reach 2months old- just be patient .
