Guinea Pigs

It doesn't cost as much for guineas n rabbits to be done in england, i had my bunny done and it cost around £50 i think, might have been dearer forget now. But i know i costs less than £100 i remember me mum moanin bout it being a rip off when it was actually a good deal.

When my rabbit woke up from the anaethesia he had a floppy ear as the anethatist had hit a nerve in his ear... now we have a half lop, half normal rabbit :(

I have 2 male pigs together and they get on fine , afew years back i had 3 males together, but one was a real bully and they kept scraping so i had to seperate them, just be prepared to to seperate them if you have to.

LOl yes, I'm sure pancake and Ishtar could do without their "boyfriends".

It can cost upwards of $100 for a boar to be neutered over $200 for a so to be spayed. Look around as some vets well, they say they can do it but actually can't. Callys an example of that the idiot vet left the part of the testes in and now Cally has abcesses at least one a week. My boys were neutered for $66 but that was a special price cos teh vet knows us really well.

The best bet is to phone some vets and ask about prices.

And is he called Arthur? Arfer...arfer lop?

Lol shudda called him that... well we thought he was a girl at first so he was called barnese...poor fella so erm ye he had the micky taken majorly oh he also had a pink litter tray and everything... hehe proper lil girls cage lol and then he inflated his misters one day and we found out twas a boyyy, he looked very relieved that we finally found out lol. Then he got abnormally aggressive and was sprayin everywhere so in the end he got snipped. He's better now, all tidy no stinky rabbit smell.

Personally, i'd go for a real youngster boy to keep him company (introducing them gradually of course) as the fully grown boar won't perceive the youngster of as much of a threat as he would an older boar, thus reducing the possibility of fighting.

As far as I know, castrating a guinea pig doesn't have the same calming effect as it does on rabbits.

Maybe worth trying people on The Guinea Pig Forum (UK) as they have probably had a lot more experience with introducing male guinea pigs than us folks on a fish forum

2 males can live together perfectly happy, so long as their accommodation is big enough and they each have somewhere to get away from the other if they feel like it.

Normally if they're in the same room/area as females, they are more likely to start fighting. And of course you do get the occasional hormonal boar who will pick on his mate whatever.

But, if they have been together since a very young age, I would say that they *don't* normally fight. Most instances i've heard of 2 males fighting is where they've been confined to a small hutch with nowhere to go.

Ideal situation - neuter male, introduce a female.

But, introducing a young male can be done, if done properly.

IMHO the bottom line is ANY guinea pig might not get along with another one. I've had 8+ of them as pets and I have seen:

males getting along with males
males attacking males
females getting along with females
females attacking females

If you want them to get along it's usually smart to get them from the same litter or have them initially meet on neutral ground.
