Hey there.

My BW tank is just about ready and my LFS has some GSP's and Figure 8's. Both are under 1 inch. I was curious if one of them would possibly get along better with mollies(in the BW tank now) - if at all? I'd rather not try to acclimatize the mollies to FW but I've got an empty tank if I need to.

The figure 8s are far less aggressive but i still wouldnt trust them not to nip the mollies fins, GSPs would kill them for fun eventually.

as cf said, puffers are fin nippers. i really wouldn't put them with mollies.

also, based on your sig, its a 20 gal, well, i really wouldn't put more than say one gsp in a 20 gal, since they grow to about 6 inches, and even that is sort of pushing it....... with no other fish. and for teh figure 8s, you may get away with two in there (since they are still juvies), but you'll need to set it up such that they can establish their own territories, and be prepared to take one back to the store if they don't accept each others compnay (ie. make sure your shop will take fish back eventually should a situation arise). and no other middle or top swimmers. though you may get by with some some sort of goby to hang out on the bottom.........

Problem wth GSP's is they will need more and more BW water till marine at full adult so i dont know if mollys can take that (dont think so)
Figure 8's if i've learned anything from research will be content with light brackish or do best in light brackish.
IMO i wouldnt put a gsp in a 20, 30 g at a min.
Figure 8's are smaller, 4"

and as mentioned GSPs can be cuddle one day and leave you with a tank full of dead fish the next
figure 8's are more docile but it comes down to the individual fish, keeping in mind the temperment of puffers

I've done a whole load of reading of late having recently had the pleasure of having a couple of GSPs. The oppinion on their tollerance of other fish seems to vary. Personally I'd read on those who have actually done this. I can say from what I've read it is down to the individule puffer. I'd not chuck the puffers in with a bunch of fish, I'd put the puffers in their own tank and then send in a couple of molly scouts. You'd have a better chance as it sounds your LFS's GSPs and F8s are very young.

I'd say if its a case that you'd be over stocked keeping the mollies in another tank then try them.... but as has been said here, I'd only do it if it will not ruin your day finding a mollie dead in your tank.

BTW, my GSPs will eat anything they can fit in their mouths... anything larger, gets ripped into little bite sized chunks, yes they've already bit the hand that feeds them and it was this big
